OUR MISSION

FUTURE FOCUSED GREEN PROTEIN

As global food industries continue to produce resource-intensive protein sources such as meat and dairy, the environmental consequences are becoming more apparent. From excessive use of water, to carbon emissions, the UN is urging us to seek out alternative protein sources. Add this to the health issues caused by poor nutrition, misleading advertising and heath advice, coupled with poor lifestyle choices, we offer a solution to tackle both global and personal challenges. Check out the full UN report here.

STORY

We are a British lifestyle and nutrition company founded by chefs in Vietnam, focused on providing the finest, ethically sourced, and sustainable natural superfoods in all of our products. The Cricket Hop Co. was inspired by local produce and ingredients during a 2018 motorcycle trip throughout Vietnam. We’ve poured our heart and soul into developing a range of exciting healthy dishes featuring crickets and other superfoods. Our ingredients are grown as nature intended, here in southern Vietnam.

FOCUSED

As a sustainable food company, we practice what we preach and try to cook with the freshest, local and seasonal produce we can find. Vietnam is a thriving and colourful country full of culinary heritage, it has beautifully stunning landscapes and equally beautiful people to match. It can boast an abundance of fantastic produce from the coconuts, bananas and cocoa plantations down in the Mekong delta to the south, to the wide selection of exotic fruits, nuts, vegetables, tea and coffee found in the highlands of Da Lat.

We are focused on showcasing the finest produce Vietnam has to offer and she is now starting to gain great recognition in the world’s leading Cocoa and Coffee industry circles.

GREEN

The Cricket Hop Co. believes in trying to use and adopt the most environmentally friendly procedures and processes to produce all of our products. This ranges from the packaging of our products, right down to the feed on which our crickets are fed on. For example, our crickets are bred in the South of Vietnam where the climate conditions are perfect for breeding the insects all year round. In correlation to other western factories which rely heavily on temperature controlled farming units to replicate this process at a higher environmental impact. Our award winning farm partner grows Its own cassava root and feeds the leaves to the crickets. This organic feed is a great nutrient for the crickets. They then produce a high nitrate fertiliser as by-product which is then returned back onto the land to help boost the crops’ potassium and nitrogen content. This cycle ensures the soil quality remains high and there is no food miles or wastage involved in the process of rearing our crickets.

One third of the world’s arable land is used to produce the food required to feed the livestock which we farm. In 2050 the population is predicted to be 9 billion! This level of intensive agricultural farming has become unsustainable! The emissions produced by bovine creatures such as cows are the leading contributor to global warming by far! Intensive farming of animals and crops has led to the cutting down of rainforests, polluting the oceans and poisoning river systems, stripping the land of all its nutrients and not allowing it to recover, cutting down habitats to create grazing pastures and destroying important eco system in the process.

The answer? Simply by cutting down on the amount of meat, dairy and fish we consume and by choosing where our meat comes from and how it is raised and looked after, and by swapping our daily food choices for more sustainable and eco-friendly options we can slow down the process of global warming, let the land, rainforests, and the oceans recover and ensure that certain species do not get wiped out forever.

Hayden has won numerous accolades for his work in the culinary world. His experimental style led him to seek out exotic ingredients, including crickets.

He studied nutrition and gastronomy at university before following his passion into the world of food.

After cutting his teeth as an international chef in London, France, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong, Hayden found the lack of industry sustainability didn’t sit well with him. This and his active lifestyle led him on a journey to learn more about the link between food, mental and physical health.

Working with Tom for many years on their global culinary adventures they reunited in Vietnam to form the Cricket Hop Co.

Hayden is the driving force behind our creative super food recipes and his passion for life, love of conversation and ideas drives the company.

Tom, a young and talented chef from the UK has spent most of his twenties working and living in Asia. After leaving London where he was based for several years at a number of well-known establishments, he cycled solo through France and Spain working with local farmers and exciting his passion for all things sustainable.

He then joined Hayden in Hong Kong and was the man on the ground in Vietnam when the cricket protein idea came about. His knowledge of Vietnam helped us secure contracts and relationships with local farmers, producers and scientists, specialising in permaculture and sustainable methods of food production.

This knowledge and passion has enabled him to help come up with a range of healthy and sustainable sports nutrition products. His arts background has also had great influence over the creative direction and vision of the company.
